Secret lang ha...

Confidentiality is such a big deal today. We now live in a world where people's privacy are being violated everyday. One basic example is talking about people behind their backs.

Confidentiality not only applies in ethics but also in law, religion, military, journalism, and in the medical profession as well. As future nurses, we are trained to protect the clients privacy because it is a primary concern for everyone.

In the United States, it has become a serious concern. It even came to a point where a nurse cant say "CODE BLUE ROOM 304!!!" they cannot say the room number of the patient because some people might hear what is happening to the patient. Which sometimes lead to invasion of privacy. Why? because you gave out an information with regards to the client (the room number). Instead, the nurse should say "CODE BLUE 3rd floor!!!". (CODE BLUE stands for need of immediate resuscitation)

Also, a nurse should never provide information through the telephone. Even if it is the client's relative or what so ever. Giving out information through the phone is against the law.

There are also some instances that nurses and doctors like to talk about their medical cases in the presence of other people. This is also a violation of confidentiality.

If there is in need of video taking or picture taking for educational purposes, consent of the client is needed before you are allowed to take documentaries.

Another example.. If a nurse happens to throw something, like the tag of the client; the nurse should make sure to tear/destroy the tag as not to show the clients name when disposed of.

These are just some of many examples that should be follow to attain confidentiality. Although confidentiality is being promoted nowadays, it is still neglected by many, especially those in the field of medical profession...
